Flatbored??

Sorry y'all missed out on the River Retreat. I had a blast!Rev Jeff and the Ear Reverents had a wonderful set Friday night then the workshop for the bands Saturday was very interesting. Got to see Jeff sit in with Captain Soular Cat, The Codetalkers and the Wassabe Reggae Band. Met Jenni Alpert and she was amazing. Check her out in Atlanta this weekend. Fishbarrel, I had fun hanging out with you.Hope to do it again next year. Wish I was going to Bonnaroo.

And while I think about steel lovers, if there are any lurking, c'mon out and join me this Saturday May 31 at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta- for a night with Sugarland. I'm really proud of this band, it just sounds better and gets more fun as time goes by. Getting to play with such sweet and talented folks is a steel player's dream! (and if Hillbilly stays home, maybe I'll get to finish the set!) Shane Bridges opens- (fantastic Macon singer/songwriter). I produced Shane's last CD- if you like Steve Earle, Lyle Lovett, Chris Knight... you'll love him. C'mon down! If you're tied up Saturday, come bug me Sunday Afternoon with Kate and the retreads at the Earl on Falt Shoals rd. Saturday May 31 8:30 pm http://www.variety-playhouse.com/ www.sugarlandmusic.com http://www.shanebridges.com http://www.kateandretreads.com/ http://www.badearl.com/

Yes, I'll add my sad tip o' the hat to Mac Atcheson, a beautiful, talented soul if ever there was one. Always had time to share a lick and a great road story, and will be sorely missed by many steel lovers. One great sweet man!

still deleting annoying posts becasue they are too damn hard to read
I will admit that I paid top dollar for a ticket, set up camp and got very intoxicated. I saw less music than I had hoped, but still had a great time. The walk back and forth to the stage was a killer, and my campsite had one of the only bonfires around. So, no, I did not see them. Disappointing, I know. Spank me!

did you go see mofro play abbey?

Hey Abbey, glad to know that you are a Warren Haynes fan too. I met him way back in the early ninties at GABBAfest(Allman fan get together) in Macon, GA. He is a super person and his family is also. I got to speak with him recently at Suwannee Bound. He has a new solo cd coming out next year and they plan to release a shorter version on June 17 I think. That is a must have! Go to mule.net for more info.I think I still have your email addy in my address book and I will send you the latest mule news email.

Well, with no dates on these posts, I'm not quite sure if anyone is here, but me! So hillbilly, that makes 7! Unless you already counted me. ;-) Well, I am finally recovered enough from this past weekend at the All Good Festival in WVA. Wow, what a beautiful venue. 695+ acres on top of a mountain, looking down to a valley and across to ridges of every shade of green imaginable. Sheer beauty. Dark Star was awesome and so damn perfect it sent chills up my spine. I cant wait to see the Dead this summer. Galactic jammed late on Fri. night and laid down some serious funk. Sat. night was LOS (which I slept thru accidently, boohoo), Karl Denson ( I saw that) and then my fav Govt. Mule, who encored with Soulshine, my all time, most touching-deep-inside-myself(and enjoying it) song! I finished off a bottle of whiskey and had a great time. Only had to pull over once on the way home to puke! Not bad for a old white girl, I must say. Anyways, looking forward to seeing Crystal and Travis next weekend in Raleigh. Are there any good bands playing in town??? Need to look into that one.

well, rumor has it, as the story goes, that bgug was playing this gig at the llittle bear saloon in evergreen, colorado, the last night of a snow-filled week of beer, skiing and jumping the tour bus in aspen. Anyways, apparently, a couple of guys were tripping and sometimes during the second set, in a moment of great joy, confusion and miscommunication, somebody asked MVA what would happen if we dropped some liquid into his beer. Now, MVA, in his moment of great joy, confusion and miscommunication, said something to the effect of "why don't ya' just do it and find out!" Well, to make a long story even longer, by the time MVA was done Highwayman, he was done, Rev sensed something was drastically awry, and attempted to introduce MVA again to play Highwayman, to which vanallen replies "I think I'm on another planet." MVA watched the third set from the back of the room, obviously confused as to why the band was "missing something" which of course prompted the question "So Mark, what did ya' think of you guys?" The funniest moment was undoubtedly during Farewell To Lemmings when Rev vocalized MVA steel solos. I was in tears. And the whole fucking time Van Allen is in the back trying to be serious. Man those were some good times.... i thought one day they would make great stories for the book about the band, but, no band, no book, and I figured I'd share this with the six people that are left ~ ;)

I wish I could have met Matt Grondin at Suwannee Bound. I hear he is awesome and very excited to be playing with Rev. I did get to me Dave Tunkel the bass player and I am looking forward to meeting the drummer Matt Cowley. The Count is always amazing. I have gotten to see the Ear Reverents play with Snake Oil and that was a real treat and at Easter they had the Swayback Horns and Karl Denson sit in. I think Jeff has some wonderful ideas and I'm looking forward to whatever he is cooking up for the River Retreat in June. His vocals are stronger than they were in BGUG and he did an incredible version of Archeology at Springfest.

hey Mark, thanks for the set list! I think the time to do this, time to do that must be Old Love, Old Tune which is an amazing song! It sounds like one Jeff would write but I am not sure if he did. For those of you who haven't heard the demo, go to RevJeffMosier.com and then to media and then to audio and it is in 2 parts. The banjo and the horns sound incredible together and the vocals are outstanding in my opinion. Y'all get your shinny hiney's down to Live Oak for the First Southeast River Retreat June 6-8.

here's the setlist for the ear reverents' april 26th performance at freebird's cafe in jacksonville..... SET 1: i know you rider>mr.lunchbox>old joe clark / take the dirt>dirty jam>take the dirt* / little tiny butter biscuits>butter jam* / everchanging moment>sick ass jam* / SET 2: farewell to lemmings>you get a line>happy birthday to dawn>farewell to lemmings>oh death>clock goes on(w/nasty matt grondin slide solo) / black headed woman* / midnight moonlight> will the circle tease >amazing grace>some song about "time to do this, time to do that"> amazing grace / *with flat front tire's chris duvall on keys and shane pruitt on guitar the flat fron tire boys are badasses, and so is matt grondin...this was one of the best shows i've seen in a looooooong time, and those jams during the first set were sick....shane and matt kept pushing each other to greater heights and the keyboard added a nice touch as well!! it's been a year since blueground parted ways, and why someone would still be openly hostile and bitter about it is beyond me....if this show defines irrelevance then i don't want to matter, either!! flame away anonymously if you want....

aw... y'all are sooooooooo nyce~!!!! but like i said, this year is a sabitical while we procreate, heck, i'm 40, the incubator is 37 {{shhh}} and she basically needs to stay off her feet for the next couple of months until birth. So, no twangin' or twirlin' for her, and well, me, i'm just tryin' to be supportive. I can tell you that the only fest we will make is the Philladelphia Folk Festival , don't be fooled by the name, PFF is absolutely the most insane campground jammin' party scene, it really is, and if any of you think you can make it, let me know and i'll save you some prime real estate right in the heart of Bob's Country Bunker, no doubt the finest place to git all drunk n' trippy certainly since the demise of BGUG. I got pictures to prove it. I warn you though, its power and spirit are strong, you will always yearn to be there, you will not want to leave, and you will be sad if you cannot make it. So prepare yourself! Now, many of you know that I have made the long trip south .... now it's your turn ~~~~
