I really missed all of y'all! Crystal V. VA Springfest was absolutely wonderful this year. The weather was warm and sunny and everything was lush and green. The Lee Boys, Acoustic Syndicate, The Duhks, Earl Scruggs and The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band were all very good. Donna was great and of course the Rev was the best performer there. I missed his thurs nite show and the banjo workshop but his set yesterday was amazing. He played some of our old BGUG favorites with his new band and added some of the members of Snake Oil to some of the tunes. The tuba was a nice addition. Some of the songs I remember were Archeology, Mr Lunchbox, Take the Dirt, Black Headed Woman, Old Love, Old Tune. A friend was taping so I hope to get a copy. Rev was really rockin yesterday afternoon. I attended an awesome campfire jam with Rev and some of the Sloppy Joe folks. Great tunes in the middle of the night til the wee hours of the morning. It was good to see some of the old Hickheads...Tamara, Marta, T-dawg, Cliff and Judy, Mark Merritt, Kenny Ferguson and Gary Burnett. I really missed the rest of y'all. If anyone taped that Thursday nite show with just the Ear Reverents, I really would like a copy. Sorry to have a conversation with myself. I am my best company right about now. Abbey Is anybody home? Well, actually JP, you brought up a good point that I have been meaning to share with everyone. Many of you know, or even met her at a BGUG show, that I lost my best friend last year to cancer. She was 27 years old and a great inspiration to many, including myself. This year, on the one year anniversary of her death, we are gathering in her name to raise money for the Lucy Daniels Center for Early Childhood in Raleigh. It is to fund a scholarship in Emily's name for preschool children with significant emotional difficulties as an early interventional program. It is also our way of fulfilling Emily's last words, which were 'Go do beautiful things'. Anyways, not to bring down the moment of festival fun, but it is being held Saturday May 31st in the morning in Raleigh. It is the weekend of Smilefest and I also planned on being there, but priority calls. Any out of town participants get free hotel, food and entertainment. I plan on walking and then possibly heading to Smilefest to end my celebration of her life the way she would want...at a festival!!!! So please, take some time and check out this website. If you can come and walk...great! If you cannot, but would like to donate even $5, I would be most grateful. Please contact me with any questions. http://www.emilypickensscholarshipfund.com Abbey pjabbott@starpower.net hey, don't know about any northern festivals, but smilefest might just get on my list this year. and i did just find the mother of festival lists at http://www.dirtynelson.com/linen/special/events.html i also recommend to everyone fred eaglesmith.com, he been my favorite artist this year check him out (hint hint abbey) Happy Valentines Day ya'll !!! hug your loved ones today!
